What is it?
A School Bus — But on Bikes
A bike bus is exactly what it sounds like: a group of kids riding their bikes to school together, just like a school bus but powered by pedals and joy. Kids gather at Rocky Hill Park, then ride together as a group along a set route, with adult volunteers leading the way and keeping everyone safe.
It's social, it's active, and it gets kids energized before the school day even begins. The Liberty Lake Bike Bus serves both Liberty Creek Elementary and Liberty Lake Elementary — and it's completely free.

How It Works
Four stops from park to school bell. The blue line below is the same one on our route map.
Meet at Rocky Hill Park
Meet at the NW end of the park (E. Ludlow Ave and N. Winrock St) between 8:10–8:20am. The group departs at 8:20am sharp. To join at Maxwell Ln, Sharp Ln, or Simpson Rd, be there between 8:20 and 8:25am — we'll have more accurate stop times once we've run the bike bus a few times.

Kids ride as a group with adult volunteer leaders at the front and a sweep rider at the back. No one gets left behind.
Arrive at School
The group arrives safely at Liberty Creek or Liberty Lake Elementary. High fives all around — your child walks in energized and ready.
Normal Pickup
Afternoon pickup follows your normal school routine. The bike bus is a morning-only program.

Getting Ready
What Your Child Needs
Keep it simple. Here's everything your child needs to join the bike bus:
Working Bike
Any bike in good working order — road, mountain, or hybrid.
Properly Fitted Helmet
Required for all riders. Make sure it fits snugly.
Weather-Appropriate Clothing
Dress for the season. Layers are great for cool fall mornings.
Water Bottle (Optional)
Recommended to stay hydrated.
Bike Lock (Optional)
Recommended if your child will leave their bike at school during the day.

Is this really free?
Yes, completely free. There is no registration fee, no membership, and no hidden costs. The Liberty Lake Bike Bus is a community program organized by Cycling On Purpose, a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
What if my child is a beginner cyclist?
Beginners are welcome! The bike bus rides at a pace that works for everyone. Our volunteers are patient and encouraging. If your child can ride a bike independently, they can join the bike bus.
What happens if it rains?
The bike bus runs rain or shine — this is the Pacific Northwest, after all! We'll communicate any rare cancellations (e.g., ice, severe weather) via email and social media with as much notice as possible.
Will this run every Friday?
Yes, the plan is to run every Friday morning during the school year, starting September 4, 2026. A consistent schedule is key to building a reliable community program.
Do I need to ride with my child?
No. Adult volunteers lead and supervise the ride. You simply drop your child at Rocky Hill Park (or a designated stop) and they ride to school with the group. Pickup follows your normal school routine.
Can I volunteer if I don't have a child in the program?
Absolutely! We welcome any adult community member who wants to help. You don't need to have a child enrolled to volunteer as a lead rider, sweep rider, or intersection marshal.

Cycling On Purpose
Cycling On Purpose is a Liberty Lake-based 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to building resilient youth through cycling and outdoor activity. Founded by Travis Scott, who cycled over 2,500 miles from Spokane to Indianapolis in the summer of 2025 to raise awareness for youth mental health.
The Liberty Lake Bike Bus is CyOP's flagship community program, bringing kids, families, and neighbors together every Friday morning through the simple, joyful act of riding bikes.
